Economic Development311 Hauss Square, Room 325 New Albany is a fast growing city located on the Ohio River in the south central region of Indiana. It is an easy ten minute commute to downtown Louisville, Kentucky. New Albany has been expanding its economy alongside neighboring communities such as the Metro Louisville area and other Southern Indiana cities such as Clarksville, Jeffersonville, Sellersburg, and the Floyds Knobs area. New Albany offers low business costs along with a great central location that allows easy access to major interstates. The downtown area of New Albany lies in the New Albany Urban Enterprise Zone (N.A.U.E.A.). The zone allows downtown businesses financial incentives to allow a lower cost of business for the start up stages of business. The N.A.U.E.A. offers such resources as tax credits and grants to promote economic growth in the downtown zone. The objective of the city’s Economic Development Office is to foster and develop economic growth within the City of New Albany. The office acts as a facilitator between private and public enterprise in order to redevelop the central location of New Albany. IU Southeast IU Southeast is one of eight campuses of Indiana University. Offering more than 50 degree programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels, the scenic 180-acre campus in New Albany currently has an enrollment of more than 7,100 students and employs more than 400 faculty members. About 400 students now live on campus in five fully furnished, lodge-style residence halls. The University includes the schools of Arts and Letters, Social Science, Natural Science, Business, Education, and Nursing. The New Albany campus also is home to the Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center, the Regional Economic Development Resource Center, and the Applied Research Center. The University, which boasts 18,000 alumni in the region, recently received a stellar reaccreditation report by the Higher Learning Commission. Among other accolades, the IU Southeast School of Business was named a Top 10 Part-time M.B.A. program by Business Week. IU Southeast is a tobacco-free campus.
