A Message From Mayor Gahan

Mayor Jeff Gahan

We have some exciting redevelopment projects I'd like to tell you about. These projects are expected to make New Albany more competitive and improve the quality of life for residents for years to come.

The people in New Albany are very excited about the Aquatic Center which will have something for young people, teens and adults. It will include a large rec pool, an assortment of slides, a lazy river, splash area, water bucket, concessions and a large deck for sunbathing. The Aquatic Center will be at the site of the old Camille Wright Pool.

Second, we have the brand new Sportsplex at the Hoosier Panel Site. It's an old industrial site we are retooling to make a new park. This is about 50 by 50 yards square and the surface will be an indoor field turf that will allow both children and adults to practice anything from whiffle ball to baseball to soccer to football. We're the first in the region to have anything like this and we are really excited about it. The project will include a walking path, splash-pad, shelter with restrooms and a home-field for New Albany Mini-League Football.

The new Sports Field at Benford Park is an exciting project. It has served the area for many years but had fallen into a state of disrepair, so with the help of the Redevelopment Commission we have decided to renovate it. The park will have a new entrance, new asphalt, basketball courts, football and soccer field as well as a shelter house and additional lighting. Lots of soccer and football teams will be able to use this park and it will be a much safer place to recreate.

Be on the lookout for two other very important projects that will be taking shape soon. The downtown East Main Street Renovation will include an 8 foot wide median with lots of landscaping as well as historical markers and additional lighting. It will change the entire corridor in that area. We will also be upgrading the floodwall and making sure we have continued support and safety measures in place to protect the city for the next 75 years.

Keep up to date with the city's website and be sure to "like" us at Facebook for more information. We are very excited about these projects and look forward to more to come.

Sincerely,
