Swing to Succeed at Silver Street Park Sportsplex

The City of New Albany welcomed youth baseball to its new indoor parks facility. The Swing to Succeed Camp was held at the Silver Street Park Sportsplex on Saturday, December 27th. The event was designed as an offensive skills camp for young baseball 1players in Kindergarten through 8th grade, with an emphasis on success both on and off the field. The camp was led by former New Albany High School star, 2014 MAC Conference Player of the Year, and current Atlanta Braves prospect Sean Godfrey.

"When I was growing up in New Albany, I was very fortunate to have a lot of people help me along the way in my journey not only as a baseball player, but as a person," stated Sean Godfrey. "I am now in a position where I wanted to give back to my community, and hopefully give some kids the same kind of opportunities that I was blessed with growing up."

The New Albany High School Varsity Baseball Team, along with Coach Chris McIntyre, also attended the camp and helped serve as instructors. Jacob Julius, a New Albany native who had a 5 year career in the Baltimore Orioles organization, also attended the camp as an instructor. Over fifty youth baseball players received life and baseball advice at the camp.

2"It was nice being able to work with two of the more recent successful baseball players who grew up right here in New Albany," stated Sean Payne, Assistant Parks Director. "I'd also like to thank Coach McIntyre and the NAHS Varsity team for helping us with this event."

The Swing to Succeed camp provided a great opportunity to highlight New Albany's newest park. Silver Street Park is slated to fully open to the public in early 2015. The park features a 50 yard by 50 yard indoor turfed sportsplex, a half mile walking track, children's splash pad and playground, a skate park, multiple basketball courts, 3 shelter-houses, an entertainment pavilion, and youth football fields. This is the perfect venue for camps, practices, games, leagues, running/walking, corporate outings, and more. Silver Street Park is located at 2043 Silver Street.
