Plans are underway for the East Main Street improvements in downtown New Albany!
“East Main Street renovation will be a great project and will change the entire corridor,” Mayor Gahan expressed. The new design will help to maintain the city’s historic setting through urbanization. The project will extend from East 5th Street to Vincennes Street. Improvements will include a median with plants and trees, new handicap accessible sidewalks and decorative lighting. Historical monuments will mark Vincennes Street and 5th Street where the Main Street Renovation begins and ends.
Mayor Gahan and the community want to see New Albany’s 200 year history enhanced and preserved through the beautification of Historic Downtown New Albany. The plans are a part of the city’s efforts to revive downtown’s atmosphere through improving safety, functionality, and accessibility. The exciting new changes will aid in the enhancement of the already character-filled historic downtown environment. MAC Construction and Excavating, Inc. has been contracted to do the renovations, expected to be completed September 2014.
