England announces New Albany’s 2010 fall leaf pickup schedule

New Albany Mayor Douglas B. England announced today the city’s 2010 fall leaf collection schedule. A three-pronged approach will be utilized, and England is asking his public works departments and private waste collection partner to heighten efforts to accomplish a thorough seasonal cleaning of city streets and alleys.

Traffic advisory — Cherry Street closure set for Oct. 13

Cherry Street between West Seventh and West Streets will be temporarily closed tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 13, from 10a.m. until approximately 11p.m. for I-64 construction at the Cherry Street overpass.

The following detour routes will be marked with appropriate signage:

Going eastbound on Cherry Street (coming from Scribner Middle School): Take a right at West Seventh Street, take a left at West Market Street, take a left at State Street.

Going southbound on West Street: Take a left at Cherry Street, take a right at State Street, take a right at West Spring Street, take a right at West Seventh Street, take a left at Cherry Street.

INDOT, New Albany complete final step of relinquishment

Indiana Department of Transportation Seymour District Deputy Commissioner Kathy Eaton-McKalip presented Mayor Doug England the real estate deed and keys today to the old INDOT Maintenance Unit, located at 2113 Grant Line Road. The recording of the deed transfer will complete the final step in the relinquishment of State Road 111 — from Mt. Tabor Road to State Street — by INDOT to the City of New Albany.

Mayor England announces new police chief

Mayor Douglas B. England announced this morning that Greg Crabtree will be stepping down as New Albany’s Police Chief.  In his place and effective immediately, Detective Sgt. William “Todd” Bailey has been elevated to the city’s Chief of Police.
