City clean up slated for Saturday, April 24

This coming Saturday, April 24, has been designated “Cleanup New Albany,” Mayor Doug England announced today.  In conjunction with various neighborhood associations and Southern Indiana Waste Systems, the City’s private waste hauler partner, six drop-off points have been identified for New Albany residents to deposit household rubbish and bulk yard waste to assist in spring cleaning.  These sites, which will receive deposits from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm, are as follows:

  • East 13th Street, adjacent to Ritter Park and S. Ellen Jones Elementary School, between Culbertson and East Oak Streets.
  • On city-owned property at the corner of West Seventh and West Market Streets.
  • At the intersection of Dewey and East 15th Streets.
  • On Green Valley Road at the Floyd County 4-H Fairgrounds.
  • In the 2500 block of Charlestown Road at the Colonial Manor Shopping Center.
  • The New Albany Street Department, located at 627 East Fourth Street.

Chemicals, liquids, paint and other hazardous materials will not be accepted at any of these locations.  Citizens desiring to dispose of such substances should contact the Floyd County Waste District at 948-4733.

New Albany residents may dispose of used tires at the New Albany Street Department.  A maximum of four (4) tires per resident will be accepted at the Street Department site, only.

In addition to drop off locations, city crews will be out in force in select neighborhoods to collect rubbish and junk.  The City’s Flood-Control workers will gather and clean debris along the Ohio Riverfront.  Develop New Albany, Inc., will spearhead cleanup efforts in Downtown.

“I hope this year’s spring cleanup is both a busy and rewarding day for New Albany residents,” England said. “Annually the beginning of spring marks an opportunity for regular citizens, neighborhood groups and other civic organizations to demonstrate pride in our community.”
